Imagine an America in which there is no check on the government. An America whose political leaders could run free, making decisions willy-nilly without the knowledge or input of the public -- the people who legitimize the power of those leaders and who expect accountability from their representation.
It is time to rethink time

This past weekend, some hundreds of millions of Americans shared a common experience. No, not Halloween -- daylight-saving time came to an end, and we all got to sleep for an extra hour. In exchange for that momentary benefit, the sun now sets shortly after lunch.
Politically divisive stereotypes incorrect, misleading

How easily do you forgive other people? I began thinking about this idea for a column when I realized that I missed the deadline to submit a column three weeks ago. I apologized to my editor, and he shrugged it off and urged me to look at my absent-mindedness as a mini-vacation.
Going green good for generations

In a recent column, Seth Anthony questioned CSU's commitment to "going green" and provided good advice to anyone prone to over-publicizing green efforts. Anthony admitted to feeling jaded by boastful green campus press releases about buildings, carbon emissions and technologies and wisely pointed out that it requires less flashy biodegradable packaging, reducing electricity and water use, sealing windows and creating a "green culture" to become a more sustainable campus and planet.
