Discrepancy nearly expels pres. candidates

A budget discrepancy surrounding a free concert on the plaza last Wednesday nearly took presidential candidates Taylor Smoot and Quinn Girrens off the ballot for the 2008 student government elections. The Associated Student of CSU elections committee raised concerns that presidential candidate Smoot and vice presidential candidate Girrens had undervalued a promotional performance by local band Modus in their donation and expenditure report, which required documentation reviewed every Monday and Friday to ensure a fair process for all candidates.

ASCSU voting begins today

As the voting for student government representatives kicks off today, candidates, their supporters and campaign managers are working double time to mobilized the student vote, which in past years, has had a disappointing turnout. When students log into RAMweb this week, they will find a ballot to vote for one of four presidential tickets, senators to represent the college from their primary major and, for the first time ever, their favorite student-designed Forever Green T-shirt for next year.

Open Textbooks campaign looks to offer free textbook options

CSU student leaders are participating in a nationwide campaign to get teachers to advocate online resources that make textbooks available to students for free. The campaign, called Open Textbooks, would create awareness of free textbooks by letting professors and students know about online resources that allow students to download textbooks electronically.

Student leaders learned Monday the Athletics Department has withdrawn its two-month late request for student fee increases. The move comes after two weeks of close scrutiny from student government of the program's spending practices, which have included three expensive head coach buy-outs since spring 2007.
