Opinions voiced on Collegian editorial

The Board of Student Communication (BSC) held a public opinion meeting Tuesday night in the Plant Science Building in light of the Collegian's Sept. 21 editorial content.
Protestors began early by carrying signs in support of and against Editor-in-Chief J. David McSwane inside and outside of the building.
At 7 p.m., the meeting commenced with nine board members present and a room packet with students, community members and CSU faculty.
"What we are doing is listening to people," said Jim Landers, a journalism professor and a BSC board member. "We have 19 people who wish to speak in support of the editorial. We have 12 people who wish to speak opposing the editorial."

It's been a decade since violent waters ripped through Fort Collins, buffeting buildings, lifting up cars and claiming the lives of five people. Residents and rescue workers were taken by surprise when one of the largest rainstorms in state history caused Spring Creek to overflow, creating a flash flood that engulfed much of the city and the heart of the CSU campus.

If kindness could be measured in dollars and cents, a few hours of service might seem like pocket change to those who sacrificed the semester's first Saturday afternoon as part of CSU's RamServe. But coordinators estimate the 460 student and community volunteers provided about $25,000 in community service over the course of only three hours.
