LTTE: Lack of dignity

I am in disgust at the editorial board's lack of dignity, presented in bold letters Friday on their views of Bush. It seems to me that all views on professional journalism have flown out the window, and have been replaced with voluntary disregard for appropriate expression of personal views.

Editorial incites furor; Gavin Rossdale swears vengeance.

As you've all probably heard, it's been quite the fallout since Friday concerning that edition's embedded f-bomb. A few columnists have resigned, inboxes and voicemails have been filling up, local news networks have started circling the student media center, everyone will receive pay cuts, a few people's jobs are on the line and the paper lost some advertisers.

Our View

Collegian critics say Friday's "Our View" was immature, unnecessary and offensive. We don't disagree. However, those four words accomplished more than any other staff editorial we've written this year. It got people thinking about free speech, its boundaries and the importance of exercising it on a college campus.

Oh, Collegian. At this point, I'm pretty sure an intelligent and clearly written editorial would shock me more than your use of profanity. So the Collegian said the f-word...what's the big deal?! Man did you guys really blow it this time. Way to think before you speak.

The day after Hurricane Our View

Sean Reed

Wow. Just a few short days after the "Taser this" bomb hit, all Collegian e-mail boxes and voicemails are full with the fallout from Friday's Our View. Responses have ranged from polite demands that the Editor in Chief be fired to some not so nice suggestions that the parents of the Editorial Board ought to be sodomized for the piece.

How's Iraq really doing?

By John Staayer

My wife insisted that I clean my office at home, so I began by reviewing and then tossing my file of newspaper clippings labeled "Iraq/Bush/separation of powers/budget/monarchy." Since the beginning, our Iraq adventure has seemed like a yo-yo - first up, then down, then up, then down again.
