While several universities are facing criticism for accepting kickbacks and free trips from study abroad companies vying for student dollars, CSU officials maintain its study abroad office has acted ethically and in the interest of students. Those critical of the incentives reported in The New York Times say the perks severely limit students' options and ultimately inflate the cost of international study.

SWAT responds to domestic disturbance call

At about 1 p.m. Tuesday the Fort Collins Police Department responded on scene to a male-female disturbance call at 1405 Shamrock St., where they found a "visibly upset" female standing outside of the residence with a child, the FCPD said.
Officers then approached the door of the house and were subsequently threatened by a 50-year-old suspect identified as Tim Lybarger, who said he would cause harm to himself and others if any further action was taken, said Al Brown, public information officer for Fort Collins Police Services.

But coordinators estimate the 460 student and community volunteers provided about $25,000 in community service over the course of only three hours.
A cure for the common hangover?

College students may soon be able to party hearty without the usual after-drinking drag.
The Cure, an all-natural cure for the common hangover invented by a University of Colorado graduate, will be available in 800 Colorado liquor stores by Sept. 15.
Robert Scholl, 26, developed The Cure with his sister, Anne Marie Scholl, also a CU graduate and currently a developmental biologist at Duke.
