PIKE caught recruiting in dorms

CSU Police stopped four members of Pi Kappa Alpha, a fraternity ousted by the university in fall 2005, during freshmen move-in for allegedly advertising parties and recruiting in residence halls.
Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE) members Alex Mann, 19; Matthew Martinez, 19; Justin Leuenburger, 22; and Michael Bender, 19, were stopped by the CSU Police Departmenton Thursday, Aug. 16, while handing out recruitment calendars that featured "The PIKE Dream Girls" models, according to a police report.
"It is reported that they used the Greek move-in program to invite freshmen to recruitment parties and distribute the "Rush PIKE Dream Girls' calendar," said Blanche Hughes, vice president of Student Affairs, in a letter to the campus community Wednesday.
ASCSU starts 37th senate session

ASCSU leaders stressed voter registration, RamRide and student diversity at their second weekly senate meeting Wednesday night. ASCSU is hoping to get more students to the polls this election year, and will have voter registration forms available at all ASCSU events this year.
CSU reexamines gun policy

CSU and other schools across the nation were forced to reevaluate campus security after a lone gunman massacred 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in April. But while many universities prohibit concealed firearms on campus as a measure of safety, CSU still allows those with permits to carry guns.
Emergency text messaging system in the works

In the wake of the stabbing at CU-Boulder Monday, CSU is trying to establish its own emergency text message alert system. Once in place, the system, called Rave Alert, will allow the administration to text message staff, faculty and students in emergency situations.
Study Abroad at CSU

While study abroad departments across the country face criticism regarding business practices with program affiliates, CSU's department claims to be kickback-free. Concern has risen toward the companies and non-profit institutions that offer study abroad programs and the universities they deal with, according to an article in the New York Times.
Volleyball upsets 13th-ranked Ohio State

After loosing its first three games and dropping out of the national rankings, the CSU volleyball team took a huge step forward by winning the first game of the Coors Classic Thursday night. The Rams defeated the 13th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in three games, 30-22, 30-25 and 30-21.

It's been a decade since violent waters ripped through Fort Collins, buffeting buildings, lifting up cars and claiming the lives of five people. Residents and rescue workers were taken by surprise when one of the largest rainstorms in state history caused Spring Creek to overflow, creating a flash flood that engulfed much of the city and the heart of the CSU campus.
RamServe breaks volunteer record [VIDEO]

If kindness could be measured in dollars and cents, a few hours of service might seem like pocket change to those who sacrificed the semester's first Saturday afternoon as part of CSU's RamServe. But coordinators estimate the 460 student and community volunteers provided about $25,000 in community service over the course of only three hours.
