Man threatened police on top of Edwards

Officials evacuated a wing of Edward Hall early Wednesday when a wanted man climbed to the roof of the three-story building and held police at bay for hours, threatening to jump. Charles Holland, a 33-year-old Fort Collins resident, had scaled the outside walls of the residence hall but did not go inside, said CSU spokesman Brad Bohlander.

As of press time Wednesday, the Associated Students of CSU senate did not decide about whether to approve a funding package that would increase student fees by $130 next year. For results, visit Collegian.com. The package would raise student fees to of $1,050 per year and will head to the CSU board of governors, which will make a final vote in June.

A Colorado-Boulder student arrested for making allegedly threatening comments during a classroom discussion is a "really nice guy" with a "tongue-in-cheek, twisted sense of humor," a friend said Wednesday.

Max Karson, a psychology major, was arrested after witnesses told investigators they felt threatened to be in class with him after a class discussion about the Virginia Tech shootings, a CU police official said.

"He raised his hand and said he could easily understand how people can get mad enough to kill 32 people," said Cmdr. Brad Wiesley of the CU Police Department.

Disgraced minister Ted Haggard leaves Colorado for Phoenix

DENVER (AP) - The Rev. Ted Haggard moved Wednesday from his longtime home in Colorado Springs to Phoenix, where the disgraced minister will join the same church that helped fallen televangelist Jim Bakker. Haggard, 50, resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals last year, after a former male prostitute alleged a three-year cash-for-sex relationship.

WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Bush and Democratic leaders of Congress failed Wednesday to reconcile key differences over a disputed war-funding bill. Both sides held their ground, with Bush ready to veto any measure that calls for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq.
