Alternative medicine provider gets 13 years in teen's death

GOLDEN, Colo.- An alternative medicine practitioner was sentenced to 13 years in prison Monday after a judge told him he had shown no remorse over the death of a 19-year-old cancer victim he was treating. Brian O'Connell pleaded guilty last month to criminally negligent homicide, illegally practicing medicine, assault, perjury and theft in the death of Sean Flanagan.

Owens signs statewide smoking ban

DENVER - Colorado became the 13th state in the nation to approve a statewide smoking ban after Gov. Bill Owens signed a measure Monday making it illegal to smoke in bars, restaurants and most work places. The law takes effect July 1, 2006. Smoking would still be allowed in casinos.
