This is my last column as an opinion writer for the Collegian. Unlike some of my graduating colleagues, I’m still going to be around for another year as I finish my Ph.D., analyze more data and write my dissertation. May 3, 2010 | 11:35 pm
The need for graduate student representation

Next Tuesday, make sure to participate in the caucuses
Two years ago, hundreds of thousands of Coloradans made history by setting attendance records at caucuses on what was known as “Super Tuesday.” They helped to choose the nominees for the 2008 presidential elections; Barack Obama’s victories in Colorado and elsewhere that day put him on a path for the White House. No more government-funded lobbyists

Fee increases aren't a sustainable path
The CSU administration has lately been looking for “alternative revenue streams” –– ways to bring in more money to compensate for decreasing funding from the state of Colorado. Feb 15, 2010 | 11:30 pm
U.S. shortsighted in neglecting its space program
Last week, the future of the human race took a few interesting and largely unnoticed twists –– not because we developed an artificial intelligence bent on destroying mankind, or made contact with alien life –– but because of much less interesting machinations within the United States’ federal budget process. President Obama, one year later

Be grateful for TABOR and coming "cliff"
The current budget crunch that higher education faces in Colorado has been looming for a long time. Between 1982 and 1992, Colorado voters and the state legislature enacted an alphabet soup of rules –– Gallagher, Arveschoug-Bird and most notably TABOR –– restricting the growth of taxes collected and money spent by the state. Keep concealed carry on campus
Earlier this year, the CSU Faculty Council helped kick off a campus-wide – and, in some respects, state-wide — debate by asking the university administration to re-examine CSU policy regarding concealed carry on the CSU campus. Dec 5, 2009 | 4:24 pm

CSU's speech policies leave too much room for interpretation
Several weeks ago, I described the state of free speech at CSU. This month, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a national non-profit that monitors the state of free speech on college campuses, once again surveyed CSU's policies and gave our university a "yellow light," meaning there's still on the books "at least one ambiguous policy that too easily encourages administrative abuse and arbitrary application. Grad students: It's time for action
