Ram quarterback Jon Eastman to transfer

Colorado State quarterback Jon Eastman confirmed Wednesday afternoon that he will transfer from the school once the spring semester is over, playing out his final year of eligibility at Sioux Falls University in South Dakota.

Rams head football coach Steve Fairchild confirmed Wednesday night that Eastman would be granted his request to be released from scholarship.

Eastman, who started for the Rams in the Border War against Wyoming, played in six games as a junior in 2009, completing 62 percent of his passes for 494 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback transferred to CSU from Snow College in Utah, where he led the Badgers to the NJCAA national championship game, the Top of the Mountains Bowl, falling to perennial powerhouse Butler Community College, 37-30.

His final season at Snow College, Eastman passed for 805 yards, eight scores and three interceptions despite missing the first nine games of the 2008 season with a foot injury. He was rated as a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com.

Eastman elected to have no further comment at this time.
