Campuses eye smoking bans

Abstract:
As the numbers of smokers declines in the United States, university campuses have seen an overall increase in the number of students who smoke cigarettes. In light of this trend, some colleges are turning to campus-wide smoking bans to help slow the rising numbers....

Seriously?? Who REALLY cares? What another huge waste of time, money, and energy. This is just ridiculous! If a person wants to smoke, that is his or her own choice. If the issue is over littering, there could be some form of enforcement. That's where the smoker's choice affects the non-smoker. Second hand smoke also affects non-smokers, but measures are in place to help protect the non-smokers.

This reminds me of the proposal that would require people to be "of age" to use tanning booths. Give me a damn break...

I think the biggest thing here is to have the students pressure other students to properly throw away a cigarette. I am a smoker and every time I see someone throw away their butt right in front of a trash can I say something. If people wouldn't litter it obviously wouldn't be a problem. But would you really consider shafting over 25% of the students because a few idiots litter, give me a break. Next thing you know all the smokers will be chewing and leaving tobacco infused saliva everywhere.

So if I am a Medical Marijuana patient and smoking is banned on Campus , will they make a special area where I can take my medication. LOL!

Craig when did you get a sense of humor! LOL. I hope you had a wonderful week why the collegian took a MUCH needed break, I know i did with a 24 inch powder day on the ski slope.

I think it's a great idea. Walking behind a smoker through campus ruins the walk. Smokers who get mad at this, just think of someone flatulating for 5 minutes straight with the pungent smell engulfing your nose. Not so pleasent is it?

Let's go w/this idea & then let's make it a CARfree campus too. Walking next to high exhaust fume cars ruins the walk. Drivers "who get mad at this, just think of someone flatulating for 5 minutes straight with the pungent smell engulfing your nose. Not so pleasent is it?" Also, let's ban everyone from campus who goes to the gym then goes to class without showering, and instead of showering just sprays about 8 ounces of Old Spice all over. Yay, there goes 99% of the campus.
