The Weekly Blitz: College football officiating has gone French
Abstract:
From fifth through seventh grade, I started at strong safety for my school's Indian Nation Football Conference team (Northeast Oklahoma's version of Pop Warner).
I was under 5-feet tall and weighed maybe 100 pounds. Our team was terrible and we averaged two wins a season, but the one opponent we always beat on a regular basis was the one we were the most afraid to play....

I completely agree. It will only be a few years before the term "tackling" is replaced with "illegal touching". Soon football will be no more a contact sport than baseball. I understand that there are safety concerns, but there always will be in contact sports. The players know the risks and they all have chosen to continue playing anyway. When I was in college I played rugby for two years, and suffered three concussions while doing so. Did I blame anyone for this? For two of the occasions no. One time I was blatently sucker-punched from behind but oh well. I didn't really hold it against the guy. Now the NFL is starting ridiculous rules such as no hitting the quarterback below the knees, no hitting him in the head, and no attempted tackles on the QB while on the ground. What the hell? I thought men played this game! It's a rough sport, either man up or quit.
