He sounds like a good guy who has overcome quite a bit despite having a lot of distractions in his life. It takes a lot of courage to leave home and attend school so far away where you know absolutely no one and can't run home when things aren't going so well. When I attended CSU, %90 of the student body grew up less than an hour away and had half of their high school attending college with them. Also, I'm sure the student body is probably still %95 white and not that friendly to black folks. Cut the guy a break.
