free press is not the issue. taking responsibility is the issue. Recently a senior editor for Golf Magazine put a noose on the cover, he was immediately fired. He did not use profanity just a controversial image.

Hey your willing to drop the f-bomb and act like immature journalists, then hey you get to accept the consequences of the university selling the publication. Dont like it, dont provide a reason to sell the paper, like $30,000 worth of lost advertising. If McSwane had any character he would resign and the paper would not be sold. Instead he gladly takes the integrity and the quality of the paper to rock bottom, bringing along all of the innocent journalists with them.

It is not the admin of CSU who hold responsibility, it is McSwane and any who think that he should not step down. If the paper gets sold, he wont have to resign, instead he will be fired.

Shawn I am a parent of a student. I am also a citizen that has every right to join a public forum as you have here even if I was not a parent. So once and for all will people just give up the , you don't go here so you shouldn't speak argument. Talk about trying to stifle free speech.

You say I have no idea what a free press should be. Why don't you tell us Shawn. What part of the free press is set up so simple minded morons can use profanity. What does that profanity bring to a serious discussion.

Perhaps you want to defend the free press at CSU bragging about getting to drunk to do their job while on the papers payroll.

Or maybe you refer to the free press's article aiding and abetting a thief.

I am going to say this one more time for the slow people on campus. There is no completely free speech. Never has been never will be. So please stop saying we have unfettered free speech because that makes you a liar.

OK Shawn a littler experiment. You say that free press is completely free and nothing should be off limits.

Let's see you and McSwane put in the headline of tomorrows Collegian " F Bush let's kill him ". Hey according to you complete free speech nut cases you should be able to do that. After all free speech is inviolate. The Secret Service will pay you a visit. Hell even a citizen that threatens someone will be thrown in Jail for making terrorist threats. Read the law sometime.

How about If I buy an ad space in the Collegian and then put " Let's Rape the Women at CSU their just asking for it ". You gonna print that.

So please get off your high horse and come back to reality.

There is no such thing as free speech. And if you have the right to free speech I have the right to use every legal tool to make you pay consequences for abusing that right.

This is about the selfish abuse of free speech not the righteous exercises of it.

Can't confirm this but some one posted that 5 more people were given pink slips at the Collegian. Once again McSwane does the cursing and others pay for his transgressions. He is a coward.

I am really impressed with your understanding of the true problem facing your campus Jimmy. You have matured right in front of my eyes and it is people like you that give me faith in our future.

Very funny. I'll look past that insult and just say that while dropping the F' bomb wasn't the smartest move, is the solution to really take the ownership and exercise of free speech by CSU students to be taken away FOR GOOD??? Sure if CSU's name is on the line, maybe guidelines for using certain profanity should be put in place ... or something, but really, selling this student publication to the big media really saddens me.
