Guest column: Fort Collins needs to raise occupancy limits
Abstract:
According to the City Council here in Fort Collins, I am required to only have two other friends, work full time and jeopardize my grades just to live in my own quiet space rather than a rambunctious dorm room, all because of a petty rule to try and keep neighborhoods quiet and inviting....

We found a place regardless. Theres a lot of vacancies around here. It was just such a hassle with the law in the way.

I agree is stinks being a poor college student. Was one lived in the dorm , after the Army. You try being 21 and the oldest guy in the freshman dorm. I felt like every ones Dad. Also I was used to going a coming like I pleased and now I was a dorm rat and subject to the RA's law. Or so he thought ( been known to organize many prison breaks from the dorm with complete success ). LOL!
Any way that said there is also a dark side to renting to college kids. Now I am sure that every one at CSU is a respectful young person that spends 24/7 studying. This may shock you but some college kids have been found to be less than responsible. LOL!
I have been to parties at rental properties of college kids where people were urinating in the corner of the living room while girls were doing beer bongs on the sofa. Not that any of you kids would dream of doing that or snorting coke off various parts of a naked lady. LMAO!
But you can imagine some landlords hesitation getting involved in the possibility of all that hassle versus renting to shall we say a more stable choice with something invested in the community ( like a job ) that means they are less likely to mis behave and risk their tenancy.
Just thought I would present the other side. But hey good luck on getting a place. It is possible. I have done it several times.
Happy New Year and good house hunting

Yeah we've finally had success and we did move into our own place. It's a great feeling to come and go as I please and have my own room now as opposed to the dorms.
You're not alone in feeling like everyones dad n the dorms. My roommate this past semester will be 22 here shortly. We also had a woman living across the hall that was 29 so you've got some catching up to do. haha
