Young Iraqis at CSU

Abstract:
Editor's note: In order to ensure the safety of Iraqi students, the Collegian is using pseudonyms for the Iraqi students mentioned throughout this article. Photographs will not be published.

It's not the lofty Pikes Peak of Colorado Springs, or the towering skyscrapers in Denver, or even the hiking paths of Estes Park that first come to Iraqi student Sara's mind when she describes her fascination with Colorado....

What an awesome program. Makes me proud to be an American. I want to welcome all the Iraqi students and tell them to really enjoy all America has to offer.

To Sara I would say enjoy the pool. I was a junior lifeguard in high school and loved swimming.

This story was a great way to start my day and I thank the Collegian for writing it.

Sara will learn many things in America. What she'll learn from this thread is that there are Americans who genuinely welcome her and hope the best for her-- folks like Mr. Hawley.

Naturally, that experience will come as no small surprise, since it is perfectly consistent with what Iraqis like Sara experience from men like Mr. Hawley's son who serve honorably in Iraq. It is thanks to men like Mr. Hawley's son that Sara is able to travel abroad-- and one day return to a more liberated, free and prosperous Iraq.

Conversely, there are bitter Leftists who hate what Mr. Hawley's son is doing for Iraqis like Sara and her family. These hate-mongers have only venomous, bile-ridden mockery to offer this lovely young guest. Ignore them.

I believe someone as bright as Sara will discover these tiny people are a tiny minority in this country. And "by their fruits ye shall know them."

Welcome Sara and thank you for paying America the honor of your visit.

Whoever wrote that should be ashamed of themselves. You are a disgusting excuse for a humanbeing. Haven't Iraqi children suffered enough without having to endure your mockery?

I did not post this. There's a stupid troll on this board that keeps using my name. I don't hate liberals. I think they should be able to think and state whatever they please under the rights of the First Amendment. I think they've contributed much to America and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be able to speak freely in this public forum.

I admire men like FDR, Adalai Stevenson, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Rapl Abernathy and Abbie Hoffman. They were men of great courage and conviction.

Editors: Readers know the Daily Collegian can track IP addresses.

We also know a sockpuppet poster is impersonating (very poorly and abusively) Mr. Hawley, an honorable American veteran.

That behavior is a clear violation of your terms of use agreement (hyperlinked above).

"You shall not use, allow, or enable others to use the Site, or knowingly condone use of this Site by others, in any manner... which may or may appear to impersonate anyone else..."

Editors: Show some journalistic integrity and enforce your terms of usage policy.

Click on the above hyperlinked photo collage (with music) put together by the 13th COSCOM stationed in Baghdad, Iraq.

This video shows the many ways that US soldiers are working to promote the health and well-being of the Iraqi people.

And please thank your son for all he is doing for Iraq's children, Mr. Hawley.

God bless you both.

Thanks, that's very nice and appreciated, but I don't have a son in Iraq. I made that up. It's all bullshit just to impress people. Just like me telling you I was a Veitman vet. I made that up too. Sorry.

You stay classy, sockpuppet. Nothing you do or say matters. As long as all those smiling Iraqi children are impressed, that's all that matters.

Now some of our deployed troops have asked if Americans still suport them. That is a serious problem and we are taking serious steps to show our kids just how much Americans do support them (even people who don't support the war).

So, we are asking people to join the team on the above hyperlinked site by telling us how they are suporting the troops. We'd really appreciate it if you could join the thousands of others to help us. We sure could use your help.

And thank you and your son again, Mr. Hawley.

Operation Iraqi Friendship

posted 8/28/08 @ 4:12 PM MST

We're so pleased these young Iraqis have been give a chance to visit Fort Collins.

Operation Iraqi Friendship takes pride in helping United States soldiers get basic school supplies, toys and clothing to children in Iraq. Our goal is to not only help improve life for children in Iraq, but to also help foster better relations between US soldiers and the people of Iraq so we can work together to build a better and free Iraq where children can have dreams and hopes of a promising future and our soldiers will be safer as they work to make that happen.

Click on the above hyperlink to learn how you can help.

A Million Thanks!

posted 8/28/08 @ 4:14 PM MST

To All troop supporters, I highly recommend that you explore the A Million Thanks website (hyperlinked above) started by Shauna Fleming. She is a 16 year old high school student from Orange, CA. and what she is doing is absolutely amazing. Please go to her website and tell all your friends about it. A simple letter of thanks to one of our troops can go a long way.
