The end of the two-party system in the U.S.?

Abstract:
On Saturday, when Republican Dede Scozzafava dropped out of New York's 23rd District Congressional race after falling behind third-party candidate Doug Hoffman in polls and fundraising, it turned a few heads. It's pretty remarkable, given that Republicans have held the seat since 1872....

Death panels are "paranoid and insane" ??
have you read the 1990 page health care bill?
page 683 states that doctors will lose 5% of their compensation for treating the elderly?
What are the nation wide numbers on these so called five different groups?
I suggest that you write about something that you have information on.

a little research would show 17 Democrats elected from the 23rd district since 1872.

Good article and certainly thought provoking. Are Americans parties segregating themselves to the point of creating new parties? That might just be the case, but only time will tell. Our politics could certainly use more diversity as people find it increasingly difficult to lump-affiliate themselves with either democrat or republican.

I like the article but I must disagree with one thing. I feel that once the independents, who seem to be the major third party emerging right now, begin gaining power, we'll see the decline of the Republicans. Sure we'll have Dems, Reps, and Independents for a about 15-20 years, but then the Republicans will start to fall out of the major political spectrum and then we'll be stuck with either Dems or Independents. Just a thought, it is a pattern that seems to have repeated itself several times.
