StanMarsh1 Church of Scientology in Denver, now even closer to South Park
Stan Marsh, the “reincarnated L. Ron Hubbard” now has a Church of Scientology closer to his home of South Park, Co.

I’m not a big watcher of South Park, but as a kid who grew up in the same state where the show is based, I feel connected to it. Especially when quirky, real-life Colorado places are visited by the characters. I don’t know which of the writers was filming me, but Cartman’s desperate excitement when he finally gets to go to Casa Bonita has got to be based on me and my first 15 experiences there.

That’s the stuff that makes me relate to the show. And now with a brand-new Church of Scientology on the corner of 24th and Blake Street in Denver, I can go see for myself the institution that accused Stan of  being their reincarnated founder, L. Ron Hubbard.

The church is open everyday, offering free tours and informational “multimedia displays.”

EXTRA: Check out the trailer for the The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film loosely based on the founding of Scientology. Stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams.

Ms. Sakas, PLEASE do not go anywhere near this "church"–no free tours, no innocent chat with a registrar, no ducking in and watching one of their videos. Don't take one of their free Personality Tests. Don't grab the cans for an emeter demo. Don't take a Communications seminar. Nothing. PLEASE. This is not the stuff of cartoon tv shows.

And do not encourage others to stop by. As a young journalist, PLEASE do your homework and know what you are dealing with here. Read! Learn! This is not something you stick a toe in to see what it is like. I would hate to see other young students get sucked up into it. And don't think you are "smarter than that." They have survived for a reason–and it's not spiritual freedom.

As a journalist, you have a responsibility. As a human, you have an even bigger one.

While your article is very well written and cute, please consider removing it. Better yet…after you have done your research, do what fits your conscience. Just as you would never let a friend drive drunk, don't let a friend enter those doors! I apologize for sounding so emphatic…

I assume your endorsing abuse associated with this group Michael

    not cool

Scientology Is also associated with Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam

    1) The Casa Bonita episode was hilarious – and very true to anyone who ever went there as a kid
    2) For a country that claims to be so open to religious freedom the comments above prove that not so many people are open to it. I'm sure there a lot of normal non-cult like Scientology followers out there. But there are people out there that consider other religions cults regardless of the truth. It all in the eye of the be holder.

Michael I found your article to be cute and well written. People need to get a sense of humor.

  • Mike K

@KCSUAlum You don't understand Scientology if you write it off as just another religion. It was created a few decades ago by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard and the institution has been accused of some pretty terrible things. There's nothing funny about a "church" demanding large sums of money in exchange for it's own form of salvation.

  • Chante

KSCUAlum, You know not of what you speak. Do your research and then come back with an educated comment. Only then will you know. It's hard to have a sense of humor with so many lives lost and ruined, so many children of Scios without education (and forced into the old Cadet slavery), the 'disconnection' of families, the elderly and sick turned out after they have raped them of their savings, forced abortions, mandated divorces, and good minds completely shattered. It takes 12 years to recover and function normally in society after folks have gone up the levels and come out.

They are about money and power through mind control.

Do your research. Read. This is neither funny nor cute. Not in the least.

And, by the way, it was not created to be a religion. It was turned thus to gain tax-exempt status by the IRS after Operation Snow White.
